HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Panthers overcome slow start to reach All ‘A’ quarterfinals

Pikeville fell behind to Owensboro Catholic in the early going before a solid second-half effort lifted the Panthers to a 64-51 win in the opening round of the All “A” Classic state tournament played at McBrayer Arena in Richmond on Thursday morning.

Rylee Samons led the Panthers, now 16-1, with a game-high 24 points. He also had eight rebounds. Nick Robinson followed with 13 points and Keian Worrix tossed in 10. He also had five assists.

Three other Panthers scored. Heath Jarrell came off the bench to net seven while Laithan Hall added six and Tate Walters scored four and pulled down six rebounds.

Pikeville will return to action against Murray in the quarterfinals at 5 pm on Friday.
