HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville 4-peats with thrilling OT win over Lawrence County

Pikeville senior Kylie M. Hall was in the right place at the right time during Saturday’s girls’ 15th Region basketball tournament championship game.

Hall rebounded a missed shot and scored on a putback, and was fouled with 9.4 seconds remaining, to lift the Lady Panthers to a record-setting fourth straight title, beating Lawrence County, 46-43, in overtime at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.

Pikeville, now 31-2, will face Region 9 winner Cooper on Thursday afternoon at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Lawrence County’s season ends at 27-8.

The Lady Bulldogs pushed Pikeville to the limit, erasing a double-digit deficit and forcing the game into overtime.

Trinity Rowe paced a balanced Pikeville attack with 11 points while Kyera Thornsbury and Rylee Theiss followed with nine each. Theiss led the Lady Panthers with 12 rebounds.

Kensley Feltner led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 25 points and Tyra Hammond finished with 11.

Defending champion Pikeville built a double-digit, halftime lead against Martin County and advanced to the championship game with 71-47 win at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Friday night.

Trinity Rowe fired in a game-high 25 points to lead four Lady Panthers in double figures Kyera Thornsbury tallied 13 while Leighan Jackson came off the bench and net 12. Rylee Theiss net 10.

Katie Marcum led the Lady Cardinals with 19 points. Laken Williams and Jaaliyah Warren tossed in nine apiece.

Lawrence County turned away Paintsville in the second half to punch their ticket to the championship game with a 70-54 victory at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Friday night.

Kensley Feltner poured in a game-high 30 points and Kaison Ward added 14 Leandra Curnutte tallied 13 and Sophie Adkins added nine.

Emilea Preece paced the Lady Tigers with 28 points. Ava Hyden added eight.
