HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville makes fast work of Carlisle County

Pikeville girls’ basketball coach Kristy Orem had a good feeling about here team taking part in this week’s All “A” Classic state tournament at McBrayer Arena in Richmond.

Just eight minutes into the Lady Panthers opener with Carlisle County it was easy to see why as Pikeville ran out to a 26-2 lead and rolled to a 76-23 win over the Lady Comets on Wednesday.

Pikeville, now 17-4, forced 30 turnovers and scored 38 points off them in advancing to the quarterfinals on Friday against Danville.

Guard Trinity Rowe finished with a game-high 25 points, hitting 11-of-14 field goals. Kristen Whited followed with 11 while Rylee Theiss and Kylie Alvin added eight each.

The Lady Panthers shot nearly 52 percent from the floor, making good on 29-of-56 field goals, including nine, three-pointers.

Pikeville and the Lady Admirals will tip at 10 am. The winner moves into the semifinals on Saturday morning.
