HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville, Martin County reach semifinals

The Pikeville Lady Panthers and Martin County Lady Cardinals scored opening round wins in the girls’ 15th Region tournament which tipped off at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Monday night.

Rylee Theiss scored 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to finish with a double double as Pikeville eliminated Floyd Central, 51-36, to improve to 29-2. Trinity Rowe and Emma Ratliff led the scoring with 13 points each.

Jada Johnson paced the Lady Jaguars with 10 points.

Katie Marcum led three Lady Cardinals in scoring with 19 points as Martin County beat Pike Central, 66-58.

Laken Williams followed with 17 and Jaaliyah Warren added 16 as Martin County moved to 23-6.

Emalie Tackett had 15 points and 18 rebounds in the loss for the Lady Hawks. Kylea Waddington also scored 15 points.

The Lady Panthers and Lady Cardinals will meet at 6:30 pm on Friday night.
