HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Ward ready to return Wesley Christian to national prominence

Two years after its basketball program was sidelined because of COVID-19, Wesley Christian’s national high school basketball team will return this coming season.

Gilbert native and former Circuit Riders’ assistant coach Shawn Ward has been named head coach. He is a graduate of Mingo Central High School. He becomes the youngest coach in the program’s history, having served under former coach David Meddings in 2018.

He previously served as an assistant basketball coach at Jamie Darrin Christian Academy in Gilbert and coached soccer at Gilbert Middle school.

Ward comes back to Wesley with the mindset of returning the team to its previous national’s status as one of the top programs in the nation.

“I’m ready to get to work,” he said. “We want to play the best teams out there across the country.”
