HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Wildcats nip Bobcats; Lady Blackcats roll

Shelby Valley erased a six-point deficit to come from behind and beat Betsy Layne, 63-61, in a game played at Junior Newsome Arena on Tuesday night.

Riley Phillips finished with a game-high 26 points as the Wildcats moved to 1-1. Brady Johnson tallied 10 while Caden Johnson and Braiden Tackett added eight  each.

Andrew Kidd finished with 21 points for the Bobcats, now 2-2. Carter Parsons followed with 15.

Prestonsburg scored a big win over Pike Central, 60-52, in a game played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Monday night.

Jade Fitzpatrick led the Lady Blackcats, now 2-0, with 21 points. Allison Howard scored 14 and Audrey Prater added 12.

Pike Central’s Hannah May led all scorers with 27 points and Lindsey Bowman tallied 12.

Paintsville took the lead away from Betsy Layne in the second quarter and the Lady Tigers topped the Lady Cats, 62-48, at Junior Newsome Arena on Monday night.

Emilea Preece poured in a game-high 27 points and Kylie Kinner added 19 as Paintsville improved to 2-0. 

Kinleigh Martin paced Betsy Layne with 15 points and Haleigh Damron net 12. Jaden Pente chipped in nine.
