HIGH SCHOOL: Belfry, Johnson Central, Pikeville ranked No. 1 in HL polls

Defending champions Belfry, Johnson Central and Pikeville lead their respective classes in the Herald Leader’s preseason football polls.

The Pirates captured the Class 3A title with a victory over Bell County; the Eagles knocked off Boyle County to win Class 4A and Pikeville rolled past Paintsville in the Class 1A championship game.

Shelby Valley and Prestonsburg were among teams in Class 2A receiving votes.
