HIGH SCHOOL: Fall sports faces another hurdle

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) will determine the fate of high school sports when the board of control meets to set, or delay fall practice dates this Thursday.

The meeting, set to begin at 10:30 a.m., can be viewed live on Mountain Top Sports’ Facebook page.

Kentucky schools are scheduled to begin practice on Aug. 24, with soccer and volleyball set to begin play on Sept. 7. Football would kick off Sept. 11.

Starting dates will hinge on the statewide COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Andy Beshear has mandated the wearing of masks statewide as cases have climb.

Many schools are scrambling to find games after the start of the season was delayed. Teams can schedule as many as nine games.

Games will start prior to students returning to the classroom. In-person classes will not begin until Sept. 28.
