Martin County took a one-touchdown lead into halftime on the road at West Carter, but the Cardinals were held scoreless the second half as the Comets rallied for a 35-14 win in just the second meeting ever between the schools on Friday night.
Running back Dawson Mills ran 17 times for one touchdown and Kolby Spaks carried 19 times and one score as the Cardinals held a 14-7 lead. Mills finished with 109 yards and Sparks added 76.
Branson Smith carried eight times for 50 yards as the Cardinals ran for 259 as a team.
West Carter’s Cole Crampton had 232 yards and scored three times on 24 rushing attempts as the Comets sealed up the top seed in the district.
Martin County, now 6-4, will host Prestonsburg (4-5) at The Rock on Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
