HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Defense carries Pikeville to third straight title

Defense wins championships.

Pikeville shut down Raceland’s high-octane offense and running back Brenden Anthony ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another as the Panthers blanked the Rams, 21-0, at rain-drizzled Kroger Field on Friday afternoon.

It was the Panthers third straight title, and second win over the Rams in as many years. It was Pikeville’s eighth championship overall.

Coach Chris McNamee won his 209th game, becoming the all-time winningest in school history.

Anthony finished with 237 yards on 25 carries. He had TD runs of 58 and 61 yards.
