HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Martin County defense pitches shutout

Martin County dominated from the very outset and the Cardinals turned up the defensive heat to knock off Knott Central, 41-0, in a game played at The Rock on Friday night. 

The Cardinals ended a two-game losing streak and evened their record at 2-2. 

Martin County running back Dawson Mills ran just four times for 107 yards and a score. Brock Messer added 98 yards and a touchdown on four rushing attempts. 

Jaquan Rufus, Madden Miller, and Chris Phillips each had a rushing touchdown. 

Quarterback Weston Jude made good on four-of-five passes for 66 yards and one TD. Receiver Joey Robinson caught a 25-yard touchdown pass. 

Martin County held the Patriots to just 101 total yards. 

The Cardinals are idle this coming Friday before going on the road to Bath County (1-2) on Sept. 23. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm.
