HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Martin County knocks off Hazard at The Rock

Martin County’s defense made the big plays when needed as the Cardinals defeated Hazard, 20-7, in the season opener played at the Rock on Friday night.

The Cardinals picked off three passes and recovered a fumble to stop four Hazard drives.

Running back Brock Messer ran for 102 yards on 14 carries and one score. Aiden Horn and quarterback Jackson Miller added a rushing touchdown each.

Madden Miller led the defense with 11 tackles. He had an interception, along with Braydon Estep and Julian Stafford.

The Cardinals will return to action Friday night against Pike Central in the Pike County Bowl at Belfry. Kickoff is 6 pm.
