HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Paintsville holds off Floyd Central

Paintsville’s defense stopped Floyd Central following a late touchdown and recovered onside kick to turn back the Jaguars, 21-14, in a game played at Jaguar Stadium on Friday night.

Floyd Central’s final play of the game was a hook and ladder play which was stopped at the Paintsville 15-yard line as time expired.

Tiger running back Harris Phelps rushed for 165 yards and all three Paintsville touchdowns.

Jaguar quarterback Max Martin passed for 210 yards and two touchdowns. B.J. Petersen hauled in a 38-yard TD pass late in the game and finished with five catches for 88 yards. Blake Adams had a 49-yard touchdown reception.

Both teams are back in action on Friday. The Jaguars will host Perry Central (1-0) while the Tigers journey to Beechwood (1-0)m. Both kick at 7:30 pm.
