Pikeville moved into sole possession of first place by a narrow margin in the latest Mountain Top Sports Super 7 football poll released on Tuesday.
The Panthers scored an impressive 20-7 road win over Ohio power Wheelersburg last Friday night.
Johnson Central, now 3-1, survived an emotional week with head coach Jim Matney hospitalized, beating Cahokia, Ill., 42-36, in overtime at Eagle Field. It was their first game played since Aug. 20.
Lawrence County (3-0) holds the No. 3 spot after beating Russell at home. The Bulldogs are followed by Logan (3-0) at number four.
Letcher Central is fifth at 3-1 while Betsy Layne is sixth. The Bobcats are 4-0.
Rounding out the poll at No. 7 is Magoffin County (3-0).
Receiving votes are Martin County, East Ridge and Shelby Valley, all 2-2, and Paintsville (1-2).
