High school players and coaches have endured two months of uncertainty when it came to getting back to practice and games.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said during his daily COVID-19 briefing Monday he would not overturn the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s 16-2 vote to open practice.
Commissioner Julian Tackett is pleased with the governor’s decision and said he was thankful for the vote of confidence.
“We are pleased with the faith he [Gov. Beshear] has shown in our local schools and communities to manage this additional challenge.”
Tackett said with the summer program his organization structured, the 280 schools and their 18 sports and sport activities understand the requirements needed.
“It won’t look like last year or next school year, but the kids get to try and play,” he added. “For that we are grateful.”
The KHSAA advocated and listened to the desires of their constituents. Tackett added they deserve the chance to make this work.
