HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER: Burchett becomes top scorer in KHSAA girls’ history

Prestonsburg soccer standout Anna Burchett knocked home four goals and assisted on two others to lead the Lady Blackcats to a 7-1 win over Martin County at StoneCrest Soccer Complex on Thursday night. 

In doing so, she became the all-time leading scorer for girls in KHSAA history. 

Sophie Stephens followed with three goals and Emily Burchett added a pair of assists. 

Goalkeeper Lindsey Stratton stopped eight shots.

Johnson Central’s Alana Cheek and Lakin Bentley scored three goals apiece and the Lady Eagles rolled past intra-city rival Paintsville, 7-1, in a match played at Jim Matney Field on Thursday night. 

Brooklyn Ousley added one goal while Heather Lyons had two assists and Kiersten Sagraves added one. 

Goalkeeper. Abigail Ramey was solid between the pipes. 

Camryn Helton scored an unassisted goal in the loss. Goalkeeper Maggie Music had nine saves. 

Lawrence County…13 

Shelby Valley…………0 

Lawrence County dominated from the opening minute and cruised to a 13-0 win over Shelby Valley in a match played at Teco Field on Thursday night. 

Leandra Curnutte scored three goals while Amberleigh Maxi-Stepp and Laylen Hopson added two each. 

Maggie Johnson finished with one goal and five assists. Brylee Blair, Summer King, Abby Nelson, Jailyn Thompson, and Jayln Copley each scored one goal. 

Goalkeeper Preslyn Miller recorded the shutout. 

BOYS MATCHES 

Belfry………..4 

Pikeville……..0 

Belfry took a two-goal lead into intermission and the Pirates went on to beat Pikeville, 4-0, in a match played at Bob Amos Soccer Complex on Thursday night. 

Tucker Slone scored two unassisted goals, both in the first 28 minutes, while Aidan McCoy and Isaac Eli added one each. 

Belfry goalkeeper Makaden Maynard stopped 12 shots while Pikeville’s Bryson Collins had seven.

Letcher Central….0 

Hazard’s Joseph Amburgey scored an unassisted goal and Derrick Sizemore stopped 20 shots on goal as the Bulldogs beat Letcher Central, 1-0, in a match played at Cougar Field on Thursday night. 

Central goalkeeper Nate Cook finished with 11 saves.

Perry Central had five different players to score as the Commodores defeated host Johnson Central, 5-2, in a match played at Jim Matney Field on Thursday night.
