Prestonsburg dominated from the very outset as the defending champions cruised to a 10-0 victory over host Belfry in the opening round of the 15th Region boys’ soccer tournament played at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on Monday night.
Blackcat goalkeeper Jacob Martin recorded his ninth shutout this season as his team improved to 14-1.
Matt Burchett had three goals and three assists to lead the offensive attack. Preston Crase and Grant Justice scored a pair of goals each while Dylan Moore had one goal and one assist. Ben Burchett added one goal and Bryan Amador finished with three assists.
Belfry goalkeeeper Makaden Maynard had 17 saves. Prestonsburg had 39 shots on goal while the Pirates managed just one.
Belfry’s season ends at 4-7-2.
Prestonsburg will face Lawrence County in Wednesday night’s championship match after the Bulldogs rolled to a 4-1 victory over Martin County.
Luke Johnson knocked in three goals and Joseph Moore added one as Lawrence County improved to 9-4.
Blake Maynard had two assists and Will Dillow added one. Goalkeeper Trenton Adkins had 13 saves.
Isaiah Zuidema scored the lone goal for the Cardinals, who season ended at 4-6-1, off an assist from Jestin Barker.
Goalkeeper Ethan Frey had six saves.
