HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Pikeville opens Lyndel Potter with win over Mingo Central

Pikeville’s Shana Ray collected three hits and drove in three runs as the Lady Panthers beat Mingo Central, 9-1, in the opening round of the Lyndel Potter Memorial tournament played at Myers Field on Friday night.

Ray doubled and singled twice and scored two runs. Caroline Brown had two hits, including a triple, walked, batted in one run, and scored three.

Gracie Hall singled three times, scored a pair of runs and added an RBI. Larren Collins had two hits and drove in two runs.

Cassidy Slater added two hits and scored two runs while Cate Salyers singled twice and knocked in one run.

Winning pitcher Lexie Akers scattered four hits and struck out six.

Gianna Akers had two hits and drove in the lone run for the Lady Miners. Andrea White tripled while Ava Williams reached base and scored.

Aubrey Plummer was the losing pitcher.
