HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Lady Tigers win big on Senior Night

Paintsville took two close sets from Belfry to score a 3-0 match win as they honored their senior team members at Bill Runyon Court on Thursday night.

Hailey Little finished with 12 kills, two blocks and three digs in the 25-10, 25-22 and 25-21 win. Kara Ward added 13 kills, two blocks and nine digs.

Mattie Ratliff had 16 digs and four serving aces. Kynzi Slone totaled 32 assists and four aces.

Betsy Layne’s Madi Meade had two kills and 29 digs while Mallory Hall added 20 digs.

Emily Johnson totaled three kills, three blocks and 16 digs while Christian Howell followed with 16 digs and two aces.

Phelps let a lead slip away to Martin County before rallying in the deciding fifth set to beat the Lady Cardinals, 3-2, in a match played at the McCoy Athletic Center on Thursday night.

 Amelia Casey had 20 kills, 12 blocks and four digs in the 15-25, 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, and 16-14 win. Jaycie Stanley followed with eight kills and 23 digs.

Ivy Layne added 3 kills, 20 assists, nine digs and four aces. Sarah Sargent finished with 20 digs. Emma Turner  had three kills, 15 digs and five aces while LaRanda Francis had seven kills, six blocks, and six aces.

WEDNESDAY

Shelby Valley…..0

East Ridge took a close second set from Shelby Valley and went on to earn a 3-0 win in a match played on the Reservation on  Wednesday night.

Hanna Blackburn had 15 kills, four digs and two aces in the 25-10, 25-22, and 25-15 win. Kierstin Coleman added four kills and 13 digs.

Courtlin Phillips had 21 digs and Sarah Woods totaled 32 assists and 11 digs.

Shelby Valley was led by Kyra Looney with 11 kills, six assists, 16 digs and two aces. Jessica Prater followed with 13 digs.

Prestonsburg dropped a close third set to Johnson Central and the Lady Blackcats fell 3-1 in a match played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

Molly Boyd had 15 kills, nine digs and three aces in the 25-27, 25-22, 29-27 and 25-17 loss. Jada Slone followed with seven kills, two blocks and 22 digs.

Allison Garrett totaled 24 assists and seven digs. Mya Burgess added three kills and 12 digs.

Paintsville dominated from start to finish as the Lady Tigers blanked Martin County, 3-0,

Pikeville grabbed a one-set lead against East Ridge and went on to earn a 3-1 win in a match played on the Reservation on Tuesday night.

Hanna Blackburn totaled 14 kills, four blocks, and four aces for the Lady Warriors. Kierstin Coleman finished with five kills and 23 digs while Sarah Woods added two kills, two blocks, 37 assists and nine digs.  Courtlin Phillips totaled 17 digs and three kills.

Phelps went on the road and swept a doubleheader from Piarist School, winning both matches by 3-0 scores on Tuesday night.

Amelia Casey totaled 13 kills and Emma Turner had 11 aces in the 25-4, 25-12, and 25-17 opening set win. Ivy Layne totaled 13 assists and seven aces while LaRanda Francis added three kills and 10 aces.

In the second set, Amelia Casey had 11 kills and LaRanda Francis added 10 in the 25-13, 25-10, and 25-9 win. Ivy Layne added 10 assists and 12 serving aces.

Magoffin County was eliminated from the Kentucky 2A, Section 8 tournament, falling to Rowan County, 3-0, in a match played at Lawrence County on Tuesday night.

Nora Howard, MacKenzie Elkins, Jaden Williams and Carlee Adams had eight digs each in the 4-25, 9-25, and 20-25 loss.

Prestonsburg………3

Magoffin County…0

Prestonsburg started quickly against Magoffin County and rolled to a 3-0 win in a match played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Labor Day.

Molly Boyd had 13 kills and four aces in the 25-16, 25-14, and 25-10 win. Mya Burgess added six kills, three digs and four aces. Jada Slone finished with four kills, two blocks, four digs and five aces. Allison Garrett totaled 21 assists.

Jada Williams had five digs and four aces for the Lady Hornets.
