HS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Bobcats bounce Hawks; Valley rolls

Betsy Layne landed three players in double-figure scoring as the Bobcats opened the season with a 68-55 victory over Pike County Central in a game played at Junior Newsome Arena on Monday night.

Lukas Manns finished with 19 points and Brandon Robinson added 17 while Jordan Frazier netted 17.

Tyler Owens paced the Hawks with a game-high 20 points and Bryce Adkins followed with 15 while Anthony Palotta tossed in 10.

Shelby Valley erupted in the opening half to build a big halftime lead against Jenkins and the Wildcats cruised to an 87-25 win at the Shelby Valley Sports Center on Monday night.

Mr. Basketball candidate Cody Potter stripped the nets for a game-high 29 points and Chaz Brown  added 11 in the season opener. Kaden Robinson chipped in nine.

John Fleming led the Cavaliers with nine points.

Floyd Central landed three players in double-figure scoring but it wasn’t enough as Magoffin County took a 67-56 victory over the Jaguars on Monday night.

Hayden Hall tossed in 12 points to lead the Jaguars while Marcus Thacker added 11 and Dalton Boyd tallied 10. Brandon Little pulled down 10 rebounds in the loss.

Maddie Thompson led three Lady Cardinals in double figures with 18 points. She also had 25 rebounds and three blocks. Laykn Porter tossed in 14 and Kristen Isaac hit for 13.

Kelsey Brinager paced all scorers with a game-high 20 points in the loss. Bailey Birchfield finished with 11.
