HS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Bulldogs fall in 2A state tourney

OWENSBORO – The mountain was simply too high to climb for Lawrence County.

The Bulldogs trailed by 17 points in the first half to Bourbon County and closed to within seven late in the second half before falling, 68-56, in the Kentucky 2A boys’ state tournament game played at the Owensboro Sports Center on Thursday.

Tyler Maynard led the Bulldogs, now 10-8, with 22 points while Cody Maynard added 15. Trenton Adkins finished with 10 points and 18 rebounds, a record for the second-year tournament.

GOODY – Magoffin County built a double-digit, halftime lead against Belfry and went on to score a 68-54 win in a game played on Thursday night.

Aden Barnett fired in a game-high 26 points and Isaiah Salyer followed with 16. Randy Bailey chipped in nine.

Sal Dena led a balanced Belfry attack with 14 points. Tyler Chaffin added 12 while Jaxson Thompson hit for 11. Brett Coleman tallied 10.

Rylee Samson poured in a game-high 33 points while Seth Pugh added 10 and Nick Robinson tossed in eight.

Tyler Chaffin stripped the nets for 30 points and Sal Dean added 25 to lead the Pirates.
