HS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lawrence falls at Boyd; LCC girls roll past BL

CANNONSBURG – Lawrence County fell behind in the opening half and Boyd County went on to beat the Bulldogs, 92-71, in the Boyd County Roundball Classic played on Saturday.

Tyler Maynard poured in a game-high 30 points for Lawrence County, now 3-3. Cody Maynard followed with 21 and Chase Sartin added 13.

Brooke Bates led five LCC players in double figures with 15 points. Kaylee Banks and Brooklynn Collins followed with 14 each while Heidi Bentley tossed in 11 and Kaylee Banks finished with 10.

Allie Jarvis and Amelia Blackburn tossed in 10 apiece for the Lady Bobcats, now 1-5.

GOODY – Belfry’s Austin Hager converted on a four-point play with one second remaining to lift the Pirates to a stunning 73-72 win over Letcher Central in a game played on Friday.

Hager finished with 18 points as the Pirates moved to 2-0. Tyler Chaffin finished with 14 points and Sal Dean tossed in 11.

The Cougars, now 0-4, were led by Dylan Webb’s 24 points and 24 rebounds, including 16 boards in the second half. Ryan Lebrun tossed in 15 points while Joby Johnson and Parker Williams net 10 apiece.
