HS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Valley tops Pikeville; claims district title

ROBINSON CREEK – Shelby Valley secured its ticket to the 15th Region tournament following a 67-42 victory over Pikeville in a district matchup played at the Shelby Valley Sports Center on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats, now 15-5, built a double-digit halftime lead and never looked back. Kaden Robinson led the way with a game-high 27 points while Cody Potter tossed in 17 and grabbed nine rebounds. He also blocked three shots. Eli Sykes added 13.

Grayson Harris paced the injury-riddled Panthers (10-8) with 20 points and Seth Pugh chipped in eight.

NAUGATUCK – Mingo Central held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Tug Valley to beat the Panthers for the first time ever on the road, 61-57, in a game played on Tuesday night.

Devin Hatfield poured in a game-high 26 points and Drew Hatfield followed with 23.

Caleb May paced the Panthers, now 0-0, with 23 points and Joby Sorrell chipped in nine.

The Cougars, 4-12, snapped a six-game losing streak.

Joby Johnson led a balanced attack with 21 points and Ryan Lebrun followed with 18. Dylan Webb had a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Nigel Nichols tossed in 10.

SALYERSVILLE – Johnson Central’s Isaiah May and Cory VanHoose combined to score 43 points as the Golden Eagles went on the road to beat Magoffin County, 66-53, on Monday night.

May fired in 22 points and VanHoose 21 as the Golden Eagles improved to 12-6. Bryson Hackney tossed in nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Adan Barnett paced the Hornets (10-8) with 18 points while Isaiah Salyer followed with 14 and Randy Bailey added 10.
