HS FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Valley Cats roll; Paintsville rallies to win

Shelby Valley quarterback Russ Osborne passed the football for 144 yards and he rushed for 64 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a 46-14 win over Jackson County in the season opener played at Teco Field on Friday night.

Running back Ethan Bentley rushed for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns on six carries while Jayden Newsome had 101 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. Jordan Little ran for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Lincoln Billiter hauled in four passes for 66 yards. Valley finished with 491 yards.

The Wildcats (1-0) will play on the road at Phelps (0-1) on Sept. 18.

Magoffin County quarterback Lucas Litteral passed for 199 yards and three touchdowns and he ran for another as the Hornets cruised to a 36-8 win over Betsy Layne in the season opener played on Friday night.

Receiver Brad Standifur hauled in two passes for 108 yards and two scores while Isaiah Salyer caught four passes for 82 yards and one touchdown.

Running back Aden Barnett ran for 90 yards and one touchdown on three carries.

Magoffin County (1-0) will host Martin County (1-0) and Betsy Layne (0-1) visits Knott County Central (0-0) on Sept. 18.

East Jessamine…24

Paintsville quarterback Jake Hyden passed for 192 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 107 yards and two scores as the Tigers came from behind in the second half to beat East Jessamine on the road Friday night.

Running back Harris Phelps carried 23 times for 24 yards and two scores.

Karsten Poe hauled in three catches for 70 yards and one touchdown while Zach Taylor had two catches for 43 yards and one score.

Luke Hyden, Frederick James and Harris Phelps each had a fumble recovery. Mason Lovely finished with 17 tackles and Hunter Ousley added 12.

Paintsville (1-0) will play at Crittenden County (0-1) on Sept. 18.
