STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Panthers come up short in opening-round loss

Pikeville ace hurler Isaac Duty pitched well enough to send the Panthers to the Elite 8 of the state baseball tournament under sunny skies at Counter Clocks Field in Lexington. On Friday.

Harrison County scored a pair od unearned runs, including the game winner on a wild pitch, to beat the Panthers, 2-1.

Duty scattered five hits while striking out seven and walking just one in six and two-thirds innings.

Pikeville took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Sam Wright singled and came around to score on Noah Jarrell’s RBI single.

The Panthers left runners at first and second in the bottom of the seventh, ending the season at 24-12.

It was Pikeville’s first appearance on the big stage since 2012.
