Defending state champion Sacred Heart used an 11-0 run to close out the first half and pulled away to beat Lawrence County, 70-33, in the opening round of the girls’ Sweet 16 played at Rupp Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs, who finished the year at 30-6, landed two players in double figure scoring as Miss Basketball candidate Kensley Feltner scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists. Sophie Adkins followed with 11 and nine boards, one shy of a double-double.

Lawrence County shot just 25 percent from the floor, hitting on 12-of 48 field goals, including 3-of-18 from three-point range.

Lawrence County was playing in the state tournament for the first time in program history. The loss snapped a 13-game winning streak.
