15TH REGION TOURNAMENT: May ends triple OT thriller; Bobcats advance

In what will go down as one of the most thrilling  finishes in the history of the 15th Region tournament, Johnson Central’s Isaiah May hit a three-point basket with 2.7 seconds remaining in triple overtime to help the Golden Eagles escape East Ridge, 71-68, at the Appalachian Wireless arena on Monday night.

The game was tied nine times and there were 10 lead changes. Johnson Central improved to a region best 20-3 while the Warriors season ends at 15-9.

Cory VanHoose fired in 29 and May added 24.

Isaac Woods led the Warriors with 17. Jon Mills and Eli Sykes followed with 16 each and Braxton Stanley tossed in 11.

At Pikeville

Betsy Layne punched their ticket to the 15th Region tournament semifinals with a come-from-behind 74-62 win over Pike Central in a game played at the Appalachian Wireless arena on Monday night.

Chase Mims finished with a double-double for the Bobcats with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Brady Robinson added 22 points as Betsy Layne moved to 13-8. Andrew Kidd tossed in 11.

Bryce Adkins paced the Hawks (16-11) with 16 points while Josh Du Toit and Latee Childress tossed in 15 each. Kasope Lawrence added nine.
