58TH DISTRICT BASKETBALL: Bobcats, Bulldogs reach title game

Betsy Layne and Lawrence County will meet in the 58th District tournament championship game for the third straight year after the Bobcats knocked off Prestonsburg, 69-58, in the semifinals played on Tuesday night.

Brady Robinson scored 22 points and Carter Parson fired in 19 as Betsy Layne moved to 19-9. Andrew Kidd added 10.

Blackcat eighth-grader Braxton Keathley led all scorers with 23 points. Kaden Allen added 10.

The championship game will be played at Lawrence County on Thursday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Both teams moved on to regional play next week.

Floyd Central………65

Lawrence County won the rubber match with Floyd Central and secured a spot in the 58th District tournament championship game with a 73-65 win in a game played in Louisa on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs improved to 17-14 and earned a berth in the 15th Region tournament as well with the win. Floyd Central’s season ended at 19-9.

Blake Marcum led the Bulldogs with 19 points while Hayden Perry followed with 16. Kaden Gillispie and Andrew Bloomfield tossed in 10 each.
