58TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Betsy Layne, Lawrence County reach title game

Betsy Layne’s Brady Robinson put the Bobcats on his back following an injury which sidelined leading scorer Jordan Frazier.

Robinson fired in a game-high 36 points and Betsy Layne eliminated Floyd Central, 63-48, in the opening round of the boys; 58th District tournament played at Junior Newsome Arena on Monday night.

The Bobcats, now 11-8, will face Lawrence County (11-9) in the championship game on March 18.

Chase Mims finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Andrew Kidd tossed in eight.

Braden Moore led the Jaguars, whose season ended at 7-15, with 20 points. Ronnie Sammons tossed in 10 and Tanner Hall added eight.

Frazier suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

Lawrence County punched its ticket to the boys’ 58th District tournament championship game with a 68-52 win over Prestonsburg in a game played at Junior Newsome Arena on Monday night.

Cody Maynard fired in a game-high 27 points as the Bulldogs improved to 11-9. Kaden Gillespie followed with 14 and Trenton Adkins added 12. Will Lafferty net eight.

Ryan Rose and Grant Justice paced the Blackcats (9-14) with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Connor Hopkins tossed in 11 and Will Gullett had nine.
