58TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Floyd Central, Lawrence County advance

Floyd Central took the lead away from Prestonsburg in the second period and went on to score a 74-46 win in the girls’ 58th District tournament matchup played Junior Newsome Arena on Tuesday night.

Kennedy Harvel led four Lady Jags (17-4) in double figures with 22 points. Katie Jo Moore followed with 18 while Jada Johnson tallied 13. Natalie Holle tossed in 10.

Celina Mullins had 22 points for the Lady Blackcats, who finished the season 14-15. Faith Lazar tossed in nine.

The defending champs are still alive – barely.

Lawrence County rallied in the final quarter to force overtime against Betsy Layne and then squeezed out a 57-55 win in the girls’ 58th District tournament game played at Junior Newsome Arena on Tuesday night.

Sophomore standout Kensley Feltner finished with a game-high 38 points and 18 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs, now 17-10, advanced to the championship game against Floyd Central on Friday night. Kaison Ward tossed in 11.

Kim Akers scored 21 points for the Lady Bobcats, whose season ended at 10-16. Katie Kidd added 12 and Sydney Newsome tossed in 11.
