HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Kuir has record-setting game in Pirates’ double OT win

Belfry’s Bol Kuir owned the night in the Pirates 78-77, double overtime win on the road at Lawrence County on Thursday night.

He scored 25 points, grabbed a record-breaking 42 rebounds, including 26 in the second half and overtime, and blocked eight shots as the Pirates closed out the regular season at 15-9. He passed the legendary King Kelly Coleman for second place in state history.

His 85 total blocks this season breaks the school record of 84 set by Adam Reed during the 2001-02 season. Kuir needs 42 rebounds in the post season to set a school record, currently held by Tony Messer, who had 367 during the 2011-12 campaign.

The state mark in rebounds is 48, held by Fredonia’s Russ “Goose” Milton during the 1956-57 season. Milton scored 53 points in the game.

Sal Dean added20 points and DeMahjae Clark net 16. Ben McNamee tossed in nine.

Cody Maynard had a game-high 32 for the Bulldogs (10-9), including 24 after halftime. Will Lafferty followed with 21and Trenton Adkins scored 18.

Pike Central took the lead away from Shelby Valley in the second period and the Hawks went on to score a 69-58 win in the regular season finale played at the Hawks Nest on Thursday night.

Josh Du Toit paced Central, now 15-9, with a game-high 23 points. Bryce Adkins followed with 16 and Jaylan Rigdon added 13.

Anthony Pallotta paced the Wildcats (16-7) with 20 points and Keian Worrix tossed in 14. Chaz Brown  net 11.
