HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Bobcats end 37-year drought with win over Blackcats

Betsy Layne players leaped for joy as the final seconds ticked away on the scoreboard.

The Bobcats dominated Prestonsburg from start to finish in scoring a 33-14 win to remain undefeated on the season.

The bigger storyline was Betsy Layne ended a 37-year drought to Prestonsburg, winning for the first time since 1986. That was the only other win in the series, 12-8.

Betsy Layne (6-0) is off to the best start in program history.

Quartrback Carter Parsons passed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns – one each to Isaiah Allen and Dylon Williams. Allen also caught a halfback pass from Williams for a score. 

Running back Andrew McCutcheon ran for 109 yards and one rushing touchdown on 15 carries.

Allen’s big night included a 38-yard interception return to open the scoring.

Betsy Layne’s defense limited Prestonsburg to 136 total yards. Dalton Elliott and Jacob Rose finished with 35 yards each.

The Blackcats, now 4-2, will play at Martin County (2-4) on Friday. Kickoff from the Rock is set for 7:30 pm. The Bobcats will visit East Ridge (3-2) on Oct. 6. Game time is 7:30 pm.
