Lawrence County quarterback Alex Strickland tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Tackett with just 12 seconds remaining to lift the Bulldogs to a stunning 29-28 win over Pike County Central at the Dawg House on Friday night.
Logan Southers’ PAT kick provided the margin of victory as the Bulldogs improved to 2-0.
Pike Central, now 2-3, had taken a 28-22 lead when running back Keegan Bentley tossed a pass to a wide open Tayvion Boykins from 15 yards out with 1 minute, six seconds left to play. It was fourth down and seven.
Boykins ran for 161 yards and one touchdown and he also caught a touchdown pass.
Bentley finished with 91 yards and one score while running back Matt Anderson rushed 22 times for 81 yards and a score.
Bulldog running back Dylan Ferguson ran for 111 yards and a touchdown. Strickland also rushed for one touchdown.
Both teams are back in action on Oct. 16 as the Hawks host Magoffin County (3-2) while the Bulldogs welcome Belfry (3-2) for a key district showdown. Kickoff for both games is set for 7:30pm.
