HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Floyd Central ends 22-game losing streak

Floyd Central isn’t going to the Class 3A playoffs.

None of that mattered when the Jaguars finally ended a drought of going without a win since September 2020 when they beat Prestonsburg.

Running back Sheston Johnson rushed for three second half touchdowns as the Jaguars outscored Betsy Layne, 57-33, at Lloyd Hamilton Athletic Complex on Friday night.

Quarterback Max Martin passed for a score and ran for another. Running back B,J. Petersen ran for 107 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Colt Shelton and Bryce Thacker added a rushing TD each. Brody Buck caught a touchdown pass.

Betsy Layne running back Andrew McCutcheon ran for 116 yards and a score and caught a touchdown pass covering 25 yards.

Reece Music rushed 16 times for 154 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Carson Parsons passed for a pair of scores and ran for another. Landon Howell had a touchdown reception.

Betsy Layne, now 5-5, will travel to Paris (7-3) on Friday to open Class 1A state playoff action. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
