Matney reaches coaching milestone with win No. 300

Johnson Central extended the state’s second longest winning streak to 18 games as the Golden Eagles steamrolled Clay County, 49-6, on the road Friday night.

It was coaching victory No. 300 for Jim Matney. His teams have not lost since the 2018 Class 4A title game.

Running back Dillon Preston carried just four times for 112 yards and three touchdowns as Johnson Central moved to 3-0.

Mason Lawson rushed for 69 yards and one score on two carries and Bladen Sexton, quarterback Grant Rice and Zack McCoart added one rushing TD each.

Jacob Cain and Cameron Wright each picked off one pass.

The Golden Eagles will host Perry Central on Oct. 9. Kickoff from Eagle Field is set for 7:30 pm.
