HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Tigers turn back Hawks

Paintsville’s second-half surge continued as the Tigers went on the road to Pike Central and scored a 22-14 win at the Hawks Nest on Friday night.

Quarterback Alex Johnson rushed for a touchdown and passed for two others as the Tigers improved to 5-5.

Lucas Howard hauled in a 29-yard TD pass and added a nine-yard scoring reception.

Pike Central’s Shannon Scott Williams returned a blocked field goal attempt back 80 yards to paydirt for the Hawks.

Quarterback Jamere Knuckles added a one-yard rushing touchdown as the lost dropped to 5-5 and lost their fourth straight.

Both teams are set to begin post-season play on Friday. Paintsville will host Pineville (2-8) while the Hawks play at Martin County (5-5). Both games will kick at 7:30 pm.
