HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Valley Cats end West Carter drought win big home win

Shelby Valley had not beaten West Carter in five previous meetings on the gridiron. 

All that changed on Friday night as Valley used an explosive passing and ground game to roll past the Comets, 54-21, at Hobart Clay Johnson Field. 

Running back Jayden Newsome ran for 237 yards and five rushing touchdowns on. 21 carries as the Wildcats improved to 3-2.

Receiver Brady Bentley caught eight passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. He added a rushing score. John Fields hauled in three passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. 

Quarterback Russ Osborne completed 15-of-22 passes for 311 yards and two scoring tosses.  

The Wildcats are now preparing to host undefeated Prestonsburg (6-0) on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
