In one of the greatest games in 15th Region tournament history, Pikeville’s Cassidy Slater reached base on an error, swiped second, and then raced home on a throwing error to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 win over Pike County Central in 12 innings at Massey Energy Field on Tuesday night.
Pikeville senior pitcher Emily Ford and Pike Central’s Chloe Hannah combined for 34 strikeouts and neither allowed a single walk.
Ford fanned 16 and scattered three hits as the Lady Panthers improved to 23-12 and moved into tonight’s championship game against defending champion Johnson Central.
Hannah finished with 18 strikeouts and allowed six hits as the Lady Hawks wrapped up the year at 27-12.
Izzy Rose had two hits for Pikeville while Kelcie Adams, Shana Ray, Ford, and Slater had one each.
Taylor Hannah had two hits in the loss and Livia Sanders added a single.
In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles rolled past Lawrence County, 13-8.
Randi Delong had a pair of doubles and drove in four runs as JC improved to 24-13. Clara Blair added three hits and batted in two runs.
Abigail Williams had two hits, drove in one run, and scored three runs to back winning pitcher Maddie Vaughn.
Kensley Feltner had one hit and batted in two runs in the loss. Gracie Preece tripled, singled, and scored two runs as the Lady Bulldogs season ends at 29-7 Abby Nelson doubled, singled, and scored two runs.
Losing pitcher Allie Triplett doubled, singled, and scored one run.
Tonight’s title game begins at 7 pm.
