15TH REGION TOURNAMENT: Pikeville, Pike Central move into semifinals

The boys’ 15th Region tournament semifinals are now set following the completion of quarterfinal action at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Thursday night.

Pikeville’s Heath Jarrell led three Panthers in double figure scoring with 19 points in a 61-49 win over Paintsville. 

Charlie Fitzer followed with 15 points and Rylee Samons added 11 as the Panthers improved to 21-7. 

The Tigers, whose season ended at 14-17, was led by Ethan Cole with 19 points. Connor Fugate net 15 in the loss.

In the nightcap, Pike Central turned back Betsy Layne in the closing minutes to advance with a 68-62 win.

The Hawks were led by Jaylon Rigdon with 25 points and Jaden Stewart added 22 as central improved to 21-8. 

Brady Robinson led the Bobcats with 23 points and Byron Tackett  finished with 14. Carter parsons chipped in 10.

Pikeville and Pike Central are scheduled to clash at 8:15 pm on Saturday night.
