Belfry exploded for 56 points in the opening half and the Pirates went on to beat Clay County, 56-36, in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs at Haywood Stadium on Friday night.
The Prates, now 8-3, will host Bell County 10-1) this coming Friday. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
Running back Dre Young rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries. Caden Woolum ran for 75 yards and a score. He also hauled in two passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. He returned a punt for a third.
Jeremiah Allen and Ace Caudill added a rushing touchdown while Eli Caudill had a TD catch.
