Prestonsburg’s only loss this season in 10 matches came against powerhouse Louisville Collegiate, 10-0, in the All “A” Classic boys’ soccer championship match played in Frankfort on Sunday.
The Blackcats were shutout for the first time since losing to East Carter, 4-0, in a match played on Aug. 24, 2019.
In Sunday’s semifinal matchup with Glasgow, the Blackcats behind goalkeeper Jacob Martin blanked the Scotties, 5-0.
Preston Crase scored two goals while Isaiah Collins, Dylan Moore and Grant Justice added one each. Matt Burchett had two assists while Jacob Rankin and Daniel Amador added one each.
Prestonsburg opened the tournament with a 6-0 victory over Bethlehem on Saturday as Collins knocked home three goals while Moore added one goal and two assists. Crase had one goal and one assist while Burchett scored once. Justice had two assists.
Martin recorded the shutout win.
Lady Blackcats go 1-1
Prestonsburg’s Lady Blackcats lost for the first time all season as Newport Central Catholic scored a 6-2 win in the second round of play on Sunday.
Lauren Johnson scored both goals in the loss. Chloe Collins and Anna Burchett had one assist each.
Goalkeeper Alivia Slone had 13 saves.
In the opener on Saturday, Johnson had a big match with five goals and three assists as the Lady Blackcats rolled past Todd County Central, 9-1.
Burchett followed with three goals and two assists while Kadynce Hackworth added one goal and one assist.
Tabitha Mitchell and Collins had one assist each. Slone allowed just a single goal.
