HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bobcats upset Cardinals; Lady Blackcats reach 600 wins

Betsy Layne went on the road to battle defending 15th Region champion Martin County and the Bobcats knocked off the Cardinals, 78-70, in a game played on Tuesday night.

Andrew Kidd poured in 23 points and finished with 15 rebounds for a double double. Cameron Pente tallied 17 and Carter Parsons net 11.

Jake Sturgill scored a game-high 25 points in the loss. Dray Duff followed with 19.

Prestonsburg’s defense limited Breathitt County as the Lady Blackcats defeated the Lady Bobcats, 53-27, in a game played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

The win was the 600th in program history as the Lady Blackcats improved to 5-1.

Jade Fitzpatrick paced the win with 15 points and Audrey Prater added 14 Allison Howard chipped in nine.

Pikeville jumped out to a big lead in the opening quarter and cruised past Portsmouth (OH), 68-52, in the Boyd County Roundball Classic played on Saturday.

Trinity Rowe led the Lady Panthers (3-0) with 21 points. Rylee Theiss finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.

Kristen Whited net 13 points while Leighan Jackson and Kyera Thornsbury added eight apiece. Jackson totaled 10 boards.
