COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UPIKE defense fuels road win at Georgetown

The University of Pikeville women’s basketball Bears turned up the defensive pressure and held off Georgetown College, 49-46, in a big road win on Saturday.

Mary Englert led the scoring with 14 points as UPIKE improved to 6-3. Sierra Feltner followed with 11 and Allie Stone chipped in nine.

UPIKE will next play at Thomas More University (10-0) on Thursday. Tipoff is 5:30 pm.

The University of Pikeville let a 10-point, first-quarter lead slip away as Cumberlands edged the Bears, 78-74, on Thursday night.

Bailey Frazier led the way with 18 points and Morgan Stamper followed with 16. Mary Englert tossed in 15 while Allie Stone added nine.
