UPIKE’s defense had no answer in trying to slow down Bluefield (Va.) University quarterback Nathan Herstich as he passed for 329 yards and seven touchdowns as the Bears fell to the Rams, 50-26, in the Mid-South Conference game played at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, W. Va., on Saturday night.
The Bears, now 2-2, fell behind 29-0 early in the second quarter.
Backup quarterback Xavier Malone tossed three touchdown passes and finished with 258 yards passing. Starter Lee Kirkland had a TD pass. He added 162 yards through the air.
Receivers De’Andre Staffor, Cameron Brown and Ben Henson each had a TD reception.
The Bears return to the W.C. Hambley Athletics Complex to host Georgetown College (4-1) on Oct. 8. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
