The University of Pikeville men’s golf team totaled a team score of 585 to finish third in the Roger Merb Invitational played at Elks Country Club in McDermott, Ohio.
The two-day event wrapped up on Tuesday.
UPIKE was just one stroke away from second place with the team-total nine over par.
Sophomore Blake Maupin led the Bears. He finished tied for second overall with a score of 137, good enough for seven under. Maupin tallied an impressive six birdies on Monday, finishing the first round with a score of 68 (-4). The Richmond native only improved in the final round, carding a 69 (-3) including an eagle on the eighth hole. His seven under par set a new school record by one stroke.
Also notching a top 10 finish was Blake Moody, who shot a 72 (E) in round two and totaled 145 (+1) to finish at eighth overall.
The team will return to action in the MSC Fall Preview on Oct. 26.
