HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Lakin’s walk-off hit lifts Pikeville past Russell: Lawrence sweeps Blazer

Pikeville’s Tait Lakin delivered a two-run double off the rightfield fence with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally the Panthers to a 5-4 win over Russell in a game played at Davis Park on Saturday afternoon.

It was the third straight win this weekend for the Panthers, now 12-10.

Hunter Jones and winning pitcher Dylan Thompson each doubled and scored. Blake Birchfield and Tate Walters singled and scored.

Pikeville designated hitter Dylan Thompson had a pair of doubles, scored twice, and drove in four runs as the Panthers blanked Corbin, 11-0, in a mercy-rule game played at Davis Park on Saturday.

Blake Birchfield had two hits, including a double and drove in one run while scoring twice as the Panthers moved to 11-10. Sam Wright tripled, singled, and scored a pair of runs while Tait Lakin and Hunter Jones each had an RBI.

Brady Clark pitched a four-hit shutout to earn the win.

Lawrence County exploded offensively as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader from Ashland Blazer, winning 17-8 and 11-1 on Saturday.

In game two, Abner Collinsworth had three hits, including a pair of doubles, scored three runs and drove in three as the Bulldogs improved to 18-2. Jacob Fletcher had three hits, one a double, and batted in two runs .

Will Lafferty was the winning pitcher.

In the opener, Ethan Whitt belted a home run, doubled, walked, scored three runs, and drove in two to support winning pitcher Jake Dearfield. Mason Preston and Jacob Fletcher knocked in three runs apiece.
