Pikeville’s Dylan Thompson doubled and came home on an infield single by Noah Jarrell in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Panthers to a 1-0 victory over Prestonsburg in the 15th Region All “A” tournament opening-round game played at Davis Park on Tuesday night.
Freshman pitcher Isaac Duty earned the win, allowing only one hit while striking out nine.
Prestonsburg’s Matt Welch scattered five hits and struck out six.

Winning pitcher Hannah Akers hit a grand slam while outfielder Emily Ford blasted a two-run shot. Catcher Ginna Jones smashed a three-run homer and three-run doubled, both coming in the first inning.
Akers did not allow a hit.

Pikeville’s Cassidy Slater knocked home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a fielder’s choice to complete the comeback as the Lady Panthers edged Union County, 13-12, in the nightcap played at Myers Field on Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Emily Ford belted a home run, singled, walked, scored twice, and drove in three runs. Kelsie Adams added three hits, including a double, and batted in three runs.
Catcher Ginna Jones collected five hits, including three doubles, and scored twice.
