HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Belfry slips past JC; LCC thumps LC

Belfry held on down the stretch to slip past Johnson Central, 47-44, in a game played at BHS Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Cushi Fletcher and Kyera Thornsbury scored 14 points each to pace the Lady Pirates, now 8-4. Jenna Sparks followed with nine.

Clara Blair led all scorers with 19 points for the Lady Eagles, who dropped to 7-2. Sammi Sites tossed in 12 and Kelci Blair chipped in eight.

Johnson Central was playing for the first time since  beating East Ridge back on January 22. The Lady Eagles missed five games because of COVID restrictions.

Pike Central’s fourth-quarter rally came up short as the Lady Hawks fell to Greenup County, 47-44, in a game played on the road Wednesday night.

Emalie Tackett led the Lady Hawks, now 2-8, with 16 points while Hannah May tossed in 10.

Letcher Central got off to a quick start and rolled to a 71-54win over Lawrence County in a game played at LCCHS Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Kaylee Banks poured in 24 points to lead the Lady Cougars, now 6-5.Loren Boggs followed with 13. And Brooke Bates added 10. Keira Couch chipped in nine.

Lawrence County’s Kensley Feltner paced all scorers with 37 points.
