HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Kats stay unbeaten; Pikeville tops PCC

Shelby Valley continued its strong start to the season as the Lady Kats raced past Bell County, 67-39, in the Mountain Classic played at Knott Central on Thursday night.

Alyssa Elswick finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as Valley improved to 4-0.

Kylie Alvin followed with 14 points while Cassidy Rowe added 13. Zoee Johnson tallied 12 points and had nine boards.

Pikeville jumped out to an early lead and the Lady Panthers went on to beat Perry Central, 67-37, in a game played at the T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday night.

Kristen Whited led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points. Trinity Rowe added 14 while Leighan Jackson and Rylee Theiss scored 12 apiece as Pikeville moved to 2-1.

Paintsville’s Leandra Curnutte and Emilea Preece combined to score 41 points as the Lady Tigers went on the road to East Ridge and rolled to a 61-28 win on the Reservation on Thursday night.

Curnutte finished with 21 and Preece 20 as Paintsville improved to 2-1. Camryn Helton chipped in eight. Leah Wells finished with 16 for the Lady Warriors, who dropped to 0-4.

Heidi Bentley fired in 15 points to lead a balanced attack as Central moved to 4-1 Tori Holcomb finished with 11 while Kyleigh Wright and Loren Boggs net 10 each.

Kaylee Banks and Jaylin Whitt added eight apiece.

Cushi Fletcher had her biggest game this season with 17 points as the Lady Pirates won for the first time in three games.

Linzee Phillips followed with 10 points and Jenna Sparks added eight.
