HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Panthers fall in semifinals

Pikeville’s bid to play for the All “A” Classic girls’ state basketball championship ended in a 43-41 loss to Owensboro Catholic ay McBrayer Arena in Richmond on Saturday.

The Panthers, now 19-2, erased a 12-point, fourth quarter deficit to grab a 41-39 lead with under two minutes to play.

Kyera Thornsbury led Pikeville with 14 points and Trinity Rowe added 11. Rylee Theiss tossed in 10. Thornsbury and Rowe were named to the All-Tournament team.

Pikeville held on down the stretch to escape West Carter, 49-47, to advance to the Final Four for the first time in school history.

Trinity  Rowe fired in 16 points as the Lady Panthers improved to 19-1 and won their 18th straight game.

Kyera Thornsbury tallied 14 points.
